Selected Colloquium 6: Precision Psychiatry CINP GNC symposium: From biomarker discovery to therapeutic innovation toward personalized mental health care
In recent years, the field of medicine has undergone a transformative shift towards precision medicine, where treatments are tailored to the individual based on their unique biological, genetic, and environmental profile. While this paradigm shift has been rapidly embraced by many medical disciplines, psychiatry has lagged in adopting these personalized approaches. The inherent complexity and multifactorial nature of psychiatric disorders, combined with historical challenges in identifying precise biomarkers, have contributed to the delayed adoption of precision medicine in this field. This symposium will provide a comprehensive overview of the current state of precision psychiatry, with a focus on the integration of biomarkers, neuroimaging, genetic and clinical data into clinical practice. After a brief introduction of the field and the CINP precision psychiatry GNC by the coordinator Prof. Serretti, the three speakers and members of the GNC will highlight key areas in precision psychiatry. Prof. Rujescu will present about the role of neuroimaging and genetics in identifying personalized treatment targets, and the contributions from Induced Pluripotent Stem Cell-Derived Brain Cells recent studies, Prof. Comai will present new data about recent advances in biomolecular research, including key biomarkers and the gut-brain axis, with the potential to advance precision psychiatry, and finally Prof. Baune will show how this novel information can be integrated into practical clinical implementation of ongoing precision protocols. Overall, we aim to foster a deeper understanding of how these elements converge to create more effective, individualized treatment strategies.
By bringing together diverse perspectives and cutting-edge research, our symposium will not only highlight the current advances in precision psychiatry but also spark new ideas and collaborations that can drive future innovations in personalized mental health care.
